Independent MOT in Sheffield

As a legal requirement for all vehicles over three years old, an MOT test must be carried out annually to ensure the roadworthiness of your vehicle, in line with government regulations. During the MOT our team carry out a thorough and extensive check on all the important parts of your car to ensure it meets the standards to pass the MOT and to keep you safe on the road. And of course, if your car doesn’t pass its MOT, we offer a full repair and retest service.

German Autocentre carry out MOTs on all makes and models of petrol and diesel cars, light commercial vehicles, large vans and motorhomes at our fully licensed testing centre in Sheffield. Our team of expert mechanics have access to all of the latest diagnostic equipment.

You can rely on German Autocentre in Sheffield to provide the best value and quality of work available – the friendly, personal service you’d expect from a locally run business with highly trained, experienced staff and the most up to date tools and equipment.

What’s included in an MOT test?

  1. Lamps, reflectors and electrical equipment – all lamps must be working and not obscured in any way and all electrics must be secure and undamaged
  2. Steering and suspension – the strength and condition of the steering and suspension components are checked
  3. Brakes – the condition and the efficiency of the braking system is evaluated
  4. Tyres – make sure your tread depth is not below the legal minimum of 1.6mm
  5. Seat belts – these are examined to ensure they are secure
  6. Body and structure – a general inspection of the condition of the body of the car including checking that the registration number is legible
  7. Exhaust and emissions – the exhaust system is checked and emissions must be below the legal limit
  8. Driver’s view of the road – wipers and mirrors must be secure and provide adequate visibility for the driver and that there is no major damage to the windscreen.

Before your MOT test, it’s worth checking the lights, wipers and tyres as the vast majority of faults can be avoided with regular but simple, maintenance. At German Autocentre we are happy to advise you on how to prepare you vehicle for an MOT test.

What happens if my car fails its MOT?

If this happens, you have two options:

  1. If your existing MOT is still valid, it will remain so until its expiry date so you are legally entitled to take your car away as long as you have the necessary repairs completed before the MOT certificate expires.
  2. If your MOT certificate has expired, the safest option is to leave your vehicle at German Autocentre where our experienced team will carry out the necessary repairs and then retest your vehicle for free.

At German Autocentre our team of technicians has many years of experience carrying out MOT tests so if you are unsure of the procedure or have any questions at all regarding MOTs, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us – we’re here to help.
